Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
How do we contribute to sustainable development in the sense of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)? As a family-run private company, we put people at the center of all our daily activities and decisions. We are careful to balance our commitment to employees with our responsibility to society and the environment. This is not a marketing statement, but an integral part of our corporate philosophy, which is lived by all our employees.
While international hotel chains are characterized by standardization, we can respond flexibly to specific local concerns and the needs of our employees. Each one of our operations is actively committed to measures for greater sustainability. In doing so, we find individual solutions that would not be possible with a centrally controlled sustainability policy.
With this in mind, we are also tackling new challenges with determination: Together with the company KATE and TourCert, we participated in the CSR certification project for the hotel industry – and received an award right away.
“We are proud that Geisel Privathotels was the first private hotel company worldwide to be awarded the TourCert seal of approval. This is a confirmation that we are on the right track to strategically-embed CSR throughout the company” – Thomas Rethage, Hotel Director Excelsior by Geisel.

Family business
The Geisel success story began over 100 years ago, when the great-grandparents of today’s owners showed the courage to set new gastronomic accents in the beer stronghold of Munich – with the opening of the “Pasinger Weinbauer”. A few years later, they entered the hotel business with the Hotel Excelsior, the first hotel at Munich’s Central Station.
In the meantime, a lot has happened, but one thing has not changed: Geisel has remained a family-run business. Three brothers, the great-grandchildren of the company’s founders, run three hotels, a restaurant, a wine shop and a winery, employ around 200 people and maintain an extensive network of partner hotels and gastronomes, architects and designers, suppliers and craftsmen.
True hospitality always thrives on personal service and individual atmosphere. We are committed to the tradition of the private hotel industry in every respect and have close ties to our hometown of Munich.
BEYOND by Geisel
The BEYOND is the first luxury city residence directly on Marienplatz. Guests should feel at home in the exclusive accommodation. This is ensured by the inviting living room, the open kitchen and the 24-hour concierge service. The highlight are eight rooms with a direct view of the town hall on Marienplatz, famous for its carillon. Guests also have panoramic views of the Viktualienmarkt, the “Alter Peter” and the city’s rooftops through floor-to-ceiling windows from the other of the 19 rooms.
Excelsior by Geisel
The Excelsior is one of the most centrally located hotels in Munich and is characterized by traditional hospitality, elegant country house style and personal service. The family-owned first class hotel is one of the “Preferred Hotels & Resorts” and delights guests with an incomparable blend of relaxed atmosphere and warm Bavarian cosmopolitanism. Whether from Tokyo or Toronto, Cape Town or Perth – there are regular guests who have been coming here for over 30 years. For all of them, the Excelsior is an island of tranquility in the heart of the state capital and the ideal starting point for discovering Munich and Bavaria over and over again.
Vinothek by Geisel
This wine restaurant shares with its guests a great passion for good food and excellent wines: Up to 20 grape varieties on open tap and around 700 bottled wines from all over the world offer a selection that leaves nothing to be desired. This also applies to the culinary delights: the Vinothek knows how to impress with homemade pasta, freshly sliced San Daniele ham and the best dishes from the Mediterranean-inspired Bavarian cuisine.
Schwabinger Wahrheit by Geisel
In May 2018, the Schwabinger Wahrheit on Hohenzollernstraße welcomed its first guests. The modern city hotel with 80 rooms and local reference in the design combines useful elements with the aspects of a comfort hotel. In addition to the rooms and suites, there are some team rooms – with six beds, lockable luggage compartment and two bathrooms in the room. Guest amenities include a lounge and bar area and a modern fitness area with outdoor Jacuzzi.
Geisels Weingalerie
In 2000, Stephan Geisel opened the exquisite Weingalerie at the Stachus. Wine has been a very high priority for the Geisel family since 1900. Through their detailed knowledge of wine, Stephan Geisel and Francesco di Carlo, together with their ambitious sommeliers, have developed the Weingalerie into an exclusive wine supplier for Munich’s top gastronomy.
